Missional Conversation

This page highlights some of the conversations our church is having about mission opportunities on our hearts.

Human Trafficking

Another organization that helps individuals caught up in Human Trafficking is The A21 Campaign. Below is a video that has various statistics and a heart felt story about a young girl name Natalia that was caught up in Human Trafficking.

Water Wells

How often do we take being able to get a drink of water out of the tap or even out of a bottle? Unfortunately there are many children and adults around the world that do not have access to clean water.

Another opportunity for mission work is building water wells around the world. Fortunately, The Journey is plugged into a organization that is building a water well in Ethiopia to provide fresh water to those surrounding Ethiopia. The land for their project, Trees of Glory, was donated by the Ethiopian government.  The Future land for this well  was once a Japanese mining area and was put under government ownership after the company left. Upon Completion of the fundraising, they will begin finalizing the permits and begin drilling.

Another area for compassion in the world is in the horn of Africa. This area is experienceing a extreme case of drought. Currently you have the option to take home a change bucket, fill it up with your spare change and in a few weeks we'll bring them back and put all the change together. All the proceeds will then go to the relief effort in the Horn of Africa.

United Methodist Food Pantry

The food pantry is a organization that provides assistance through food and other means to those who may be in a tough situation at this point in their lives. The Journey Participates at the food pantry every second Tuesday of the month. The first shift 4pm-5:45pm and second shift goes from 5:45pm till 8pm.

Feeding His Lambs

Another important area of opportunity in our community is reaching out to our At Risk Youth. There are many programs in Abilene that you can get involved in. Below are listed just some of the programs:

†  Our House- transitional home, Due to the substantial amount of homeless youth in Abilene, Our house is a organization that has opened there doors to at risk youth and giving them a place to stay.

†  Focus Program-Mentor Program. Which takes students who are at risk and surrounds them with a resource of support and encouragement to stay in school

†  Communities in Schools--AISD program, this is a program that surrounds students with a community of counselors and mentors that support students in staying in school.

Backpacks for Kids in Abilene!

The Journey is going to be sponsoring a program called Backpacks for kids. During the school year hundreds of kids recieve free or reduced lunches for the school day. Thats only 5 out of the 7 days. What happens on the weekends when those families can't afford food? Many of those kids would go without food if not for the backpacks for kids programs in AISD. The Journey is partnering with Mcmurry University and Religous life to sponsor this program. Our hope is that in the future we will be able to provide these children with meals for the weekends and the extended Holidays, When many of them would not otherwise recieve meals.

Charity Effectiveness

"The Journey believes in donating to organizations that use funds and resources in an exemplary way.  As we are driven towards certain causes, we utilize www.charitynavigator.org to pick non-profits of the highest caliber to sponsor.  In doing so, we make sure that every donation is being utilized in the best way possible.
